Notable Work

In 2013, DeSisto Law began representing the State of Rhode Island when it entered into a settlement agreement and consent decree with the Department of Justice related to the service of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). These agreements address findings that the State violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by failing to serve individuals with I/DD in an integrated setting. Under the terms of these agreements, the State has committed to a complete transformation of the I/DD system, providing integrated employment and day services for Rhode Islanders with I/DD. DeSisto Law attorneys have assisted the State in ongoing compliance review by the Department of Justice, an independent court-appointed monitor who is a subject matter expert, and the Chief Justice of the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island who oversees the litigation
